Net zero
Our future: Sustainable design and production.
Achieving sustainable design and production is crucial if we are to overcome the triple planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution and waste.
The science is crystal clear that we are putting extreme pressures on the planet. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change( IPCC) estimates that global warming is likely to reach 1.5°C between 2030 and 2052. The World Meteorological Organization and the UK’s Met Office brought this timeline even closer home, with new climate predictions that point to a 20 percent likelihood that one of the next five years will be 1.5°C warmer than pre-industrial levels.
The World Green Building Councils Net Zero Carbon Commitment sets a vision for all new buildings to operate at net zero carbon by 2030 and by 2050 all new and existing buildings will need to operate at net zero carbon.
We will have to greatly reduce energy demands and increase the operational efficiency of every building, while reducing the use of fossil fuels in lieu of renewable energy. Hive Groups commitment to net zero underpins our own path to zero carbon and lays out how we will assist our clients to achieve net zero.
This requires a fundamental transformation in both our economies and societies. One that puts human wellbeing and the ability for all people to thrive as its primary objective, and is underpinned by resource-efficient, low-carbon, non-polluting design and production patterns.
In our global and interconnected partner system, value chains for the goods and services we produce and consume, reach across multiple countries. International cooperation is therefore essential in everything we do.
The transition to sustainable design and production depends upon concerted and aligned efforts across the world and from all parts of society; with policy, finance, business, communities and individuals working together at the global, national, city and local level.
It means acknowledging the common but differentiated responsibility of developed and developing countries, and the role of developed countries to take the lead. While ensuring a just transition that supports countries, sectors and communities to shift toward sustainability.
As leaders of net zero buildings and net zero energy, we have a number of completed net zero projects and a number still in design.
HIVE are always prepared to meet our project constraints in a disciplined and thorough way which provides us with a great deal of reassurance. They listen to the project brief, and develop solutions which adhere to our clients expectations and sustainable KPIs.
