Hive Group are delighted to announce that we are now members of the Passive House Association of Ireland.
The adoption of the Passivhaus standard across Ireland and the UK has seen unprecedented growth. The Passivhaus standard is certainly not new to Ireland, with the first certified Passivhaus building constructed in 2004, the standard gained traction within the industry over the years and more recently the first Educational building to achieve ‘Passive House Premium’ certification in the world was constructed in Northern Ireland in 2021, Southwest College, a fine example that has claimed accolades globally.
Hive Groups unwavering commitment to sustainability and NZEB building design is further enhanced by our certified Passivhaus designers, adopting the ‘fabric first’ approach and utilising the PhPP software to guide our clients to the optimum design solution. Our team look beyond the core MEP services and embrace a more operationally holistic approach that incorporates building fabric, thermal bridging and air tightness so the entire building and the MEP systems work together from day one. This high-level, building optimisation creates environmental comfort for occupants with minimal operational energy expended.
Our Belfast director Aaron McCarthy is a certified passivhaus designer with experience in leading the early-stage design on two separate university campus re-development projects, both targeting the pinnacle ‘Passive House Premium’ certification. Aaron is a huge advocate of the Passivhaus Institute and has a wealth of experience in delivering low and zero carbon buildings across various sectors. Although the Passivhaus standard has gained more exposure, we believe that the EnerPHit standard is equally as important, as it is critical that we address the inefficiencies and carbon footprint of existing building stock. Adopting the robust methodology through the PhPP software creates an opportunity for innovation and enables the interrogation of the retrofit design to close the performance gap.
Hive Group will continue to promote the adoption of the Passivhaus and EnerPHit Standards to our clients globally, underpinning our continuous drive to make a positive impact on the on the environments in which we work.
